I disagree with the statement. Distance learning and online computer classes are very important for an enormous number of people who live in distant areas from the main educational centers. In Brazil, for example, if it wasn't for their opportunity to take distance learning courses, many people who reside in small isolated villages of the Amazon basin and of the northeastern outbacks would not have any access to higher education. It is true that there are some important features of the classroom learning that are not replaceable by the distance learning, such as some aspects regarding affection. Since the students are most of the time all alone, they can not rely on the good relationship with teachers and mates, for example, to boost their motivation. Another con of distance learning is the fact that it demands from the students a much higher capacity to organize their schedules than does the classroom learning. Many students tend to lower their performance due to the lack of responsability which might be compensated by the advices and demands of the teachers and staff of a classroom learning school. Nevertheless, distance learning might be an opportunity for the students to be more cautions on his or her studying routine, and consequently an opportunity to get to be more responsible. Furthermore, some students must feel actually more comfortable with the distance learning routines, as he or she may think that it is easier to study when being able to organise his or her own schedules more freely. On conclusion, regardless of some of the difficulties a student may face when taking distance learning courses, he or she can also take a number of advantages from it. Additionaly, distance learning is the only attainable opportunity for many students to access formal education, and depending on the context improving the quality of distance learning instead of replacing it by classroom lessons can be more affordable and successful.
