On being crazy
Meaning of the title and of the last two lines
The reader quickly recognizes that something is wrong with the story. Not knowing that black people are discriminated, the protagonist does not fit into this society and he misunderstands his fellow men. Additionally the title suggests that someone in the story is crazy. The other people treat the protagonist like he is stupid and so the reader subconsciously accepts that there is something wrong with the main character, because he does not know the idea of racism.
The last two lines reveal that this opinion does not have to be the right one. The end makes clear that there is a second possibility: Maybe not the men's philosophy of life is „crazy“, but the one of all the white people in the story. Why should it be normal to start out from the fact that there is racism in our world? Is it not a crazy idea to discriminate black people?
The not racist reader catches himself having prejudice, because he has started out from the idea that the protagonist is the crazy person in this story.
Furthermore the last line is a smile. It exposes that racist white people do not improve their situation by being racists. They think that equal treatment would harm them. Trying not to change their situation, they stay „in the mud“ (line 50).

On being crazy
Meaning of the title and of the last two lines
The reader quickly recognizes that something is wrong with the story. Not knowing that black people are discriminated, the protagonist does not fit into this society and he misunderstands its (if you mean fellow men of the society) fellow men. Additionally the title suggests that someone in the story is crazy. The other people treat the protagonist stupid and so the reader subconsciously accepts that there is something wrong with the main character, because he does not know the idea of racism.
The non-racist reader catches himself having prejudice, because he has started out from the idea that the protagonist is the crazy person in this story.
Furthermore the last line is a simile (I don't know the text but I guess you meant this stylistic device). It exposes that racist white people do not improve their situation by being racists. They think that equal treatment would harm them. Trying not to change their situation, they stay „in the mud“ (line 50).
